Is the King Penguin Park tour right for you?
It is a good choice if you want to see king penguins and explore Tierra del Fuego. Allow a full day: the tour takes approximately 15 hours, including roads, ferry crossings and the visit. You observe the colony from a distance, and park admission is paid separately.
The journey starts in Punta Arenas and continues across the Strait of Magellan. After the ferry crossing, the road takes you through Tierra del Fuego’s open landscapes to Bahía Inútil, home to King Penguin Park.
The colony visit is one part of the day. Much of the trip is spent on the road and ferry, so an interest in seeing Tierra del Fuego itself helps you make the most of the experience.
Watching the penguins

You watch from designated areas that protect the animals. Visitors do not walk among or touch the penguins. From the viewing areas you can follow their movements and recognise the colours that distinguish this species. Binoculars or a zoom lens let you see more detail without moving closer.
How much time do you need?
The King Penguin Park tour takes approximately 15 hours. It can be done in one day from Punta Arenas, but you need to keep that day free and allow for possible wind-related ferry delays.
If you are travelling with children or someone who needs frequent breaks, tell us before booking. We can explain the travel times so you can decide whether the trip suits your group.
What is included?
The tour includes transport to and from your accommodation, a guide and return ferry crossings. King Penguin Park admission, meals and drinks are paid separately. We explain the conditions for your date before you confirm.
When to choose Magdalena Island instead
If you would rather walk along a path through a Magellanic penguin colony, take a look at the Magdalena Island sailing. The island’s path runs between the nesting areas and lighthouse.
Think about which species you want to see, how you feel about the journey and how much time you have. Our penguin tour guide compares the options with photos.
We can help plan your day
We are a family agency in Punta Arenas and know the time this journey requires. Tell us when you are visiting and who is travelling with you. We can help with dates, what to bring and how to fit the trip into the rest of your stay.
