Two ways to do it

Via Porvenir Crosses the Strait of Magellan on the TABSA ferry from Tres Puentes, 5 km north of Punta Arenas, to Bahía Chilota next to Porvenir, then runs south on the gravel of route Y-85. —
Via Primera Angostura Road north on Route 255 to Punta Delgada, the short barge across Primera Angostura to Bahía Azul, then south through Cerro Sombrero and Onaisín. Returns the same way. Fridays

The journey to Bahía Inútil begins with a ferry crossing of the Strait of Magellan. On Tierra del Fuego, the road runs through open landscapes to Parque Pingüino Rey. This is a full day to discover the island and watch a species known for its tall stance and orange neck markings.

What the experience involves

At the park, you watch from designated areas at a distance from the colony. Binoculars or a zoom lens help you see the details. Ferry crossings and transport are included; park admission and meals are paid separately.

Before you travel

Allow a full day of approximately 15 hours. Wind can change ferry schedules and delay the return, so avoid booking a flight for the same evening.

Does the tour cross into Argentina?

No. The route stays in the Chilean part of Tierra del Fuego. It includes a ferry crossing of the strait, but no international border crossing.

If weather causes a cancellation

If weather prevents departure, you can reschedule or receive a full refund. When there is a wind alert, we also explain the risk of not being able to return from Tierra del Fuego that same day.

How the booking is confirmed

  • If direct payment is enabled for the tour, you can pay immediately.
  • For tours requiring confirmation first, send your date and passenger count. We coordinate with the team or sailing company and send payment instructions once your place is confirmed.

Sending an enquiry does not trigger an automatic charge or secure a seat until we send confirmation.
